The Poland-Japan Foundation presents a new article by Dr. Honorata Dudek-Frysiak and Dr. Małgorzata Patok, entitled “Robots or Family? Who will Care for Poland’s Ageing Population?”. The article analyzes the ongoing transformation of Poland’s elderly care system, driven by rapid demographic decline, low birth rates, and an aging society. It highlights the weakening of traditional family care and demonstrates how new technologies—particularly humanoid and assistive robots—can support the elderly and help mitigate the growing care gap. Drawing on examples from Japan and European research initiatives, the authors examine the potential of robotics in enhancing seniors’ independence, safety, and quality of life.
