We warmly invite you to the special exhibition “Sibir – Prison of Nations: Poland and Japan – Stories of Memory and Solidarity,” presented in Japan for the first time 🇯🇵 at Hokkaido University in Sapporo. August 8, 2026 – end of March 2027 This remarkable exhibition tells the story of Poles who were exiled, deported, and imprisoned by the Russian and Soviet systems of repression, as well as the memory of these experiences that has survived across generations. The Japanese edition of the exhibition has been enriched with a special chapter highlighting the history that connects Poland and Japan. Visitors will learn about the life of Bronisław Piłsudski — an outstanding Polish researcher associated with Hokkaido and Ainu culture — as well as the story of Polish Siberian children who found refuge in Japan following the Bolshevik Revolution and the Russian Civil War. We warmly invite you to visit the exhibition and discover the story that brought Poland and Japan together during one of the most difficult periods of the 20th century.
