Japan in Eastern Europe: Stability and Development through Energy and Cooperation

This new paper, published by the Poland-Japan Foundation and written by Yaroslav Sinisarenko, a policy analyst specializing in energy and domestic politics in Japan and Germany, examines Japan’s evolving role in Eastern Europe’s energy transformation, with a particular focus on Poland and Ukraine. It highlights how Japan’s country-specific approach—technological investment in Poland and humanitarian assistance in Ukraine—could develop into a broader, integrated strategy for Eastern Europe. Such a strategy would combine long-term investment, energy cooperation, and post-war reconstruction, positioning Japan as a key non-military partner in the region’s stability and development.
