2024 began with the presentation of the Foundation’s first project, the documentary film “Far Away to Japan: The Untold Stories of the Polish People”. The film tells the stories of Poles who tied their fates with Japan for a longer time.
It presents the activities of Polish missionaries in Japan. The researcher of Japanese Ainu culture Bronisław Piłsudski (brother of Józef Piłsudski). The fate of Polish orphan children from Siberia rescued by the Japanese. Polish prisoners of war from the Japanese-Russian war interned in Japan. Polish-Japanese cooperation in the field of cryptography initiated by Captain Jan Kowalewski. The backstage of Pope John Paul II's visit to Japan, and others. It presents important historical episodes relevant to bilateral relations, together with photographs and documents. Interviews with people related to the events and their researchers are a valuable testimony to the history of Polish-Japanese contacts.
The documentary aims to introduce Polish, Japanese and international viewers to widely unknown facts and stories with the participation of Poles related to Japan and to promote Polish-Japanese relations.
