Digitalisation

Poland and Japan have a similar approach to modern information technologies and digital transformation. In addition, there are many areas of digitalisation and the IT sector where both countries can establish tangible cooperation. However, there is currently no Polish-Japanese framework agreement to expand cooperation in the area of digitalisation and information technologies.
A potential pillar for fostering the partnership in this area, is the comprehensive digitalisation of public administration. Poland and Japan strive to provide their citizens with safe and affordable access to public e-services. The development of artificial intelligence may become the engine of the Polish and Japanese economy and accelerate the digital transformation of our enterprises. Fintech is a priority sector from the point of view of the ‘cashless economy’ policy. The Polish banking sector, which is one of the leaders of digital transformation in Europe, may be an attractive partner for Japanese financial companies. The digital economy will also have its application in urban agglomerations and the development of smart cities.
Poland and Japan are leaders in the development and programming of computer games. The video game market in both countries is growing at a very dynamic pace. The Polish gaming industry is synonymous with quality, creativity and innovation. An example is the world-famous Polish games ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Cyberpunk 2077’, which are widespread in Japan. Polish companies regularly appear at the most important industry events in Japan. The Tokyo Game Show, one of the largest gaming events in the world, garners special attention of Polish gaming industry, where companies showcase their latest products, innovations and technologies. Esports is constantly strengthening its market position in both countries with a high potential for development.
The rapid development of modern information technologies in all spheres of life is associated with huge opportunities, but also threats. A common priority is to prepare Poles and Japanese for the upcoming changes by improving digital skills and preventing digital exclusion. The shared goal is to shape and develop a secure cyberspace in Poland and Japan and to promote Polish and Japanese companies dealing with cyber security. The platform for cooperation and promotion of the Polish cybersecurity industry #CyberMadeinPoland is the largest IT cluster in the Central and Eastern Europe region, currently bringing together 56 innovative companies in the field of cybersecurity.
Japan is regarded as one of the most innovative countries, - presenting an opportunity to deepen cooperation between Poland and Japan in the area of broad-based digitalization. Observing the dynamic development of the startup ecosystem, it would be desirable to increase the presence of Polish startups in Japan and Japanese in Poland. A common task in the area of digitalisation and information technology is also to support Ukraine in its future recovery and fight disinformation. Cooperation should also be sought between scientific and research centres from Poland and Japan that deal with modern information technologies. Digital progress is a common goal to support the economic growth of both countries.
